Structural engineers assess the strength of structures. They determine if the design and materials are sufficient to support the weight of the structure, the stress of the intended use and environmental conditions (such as wind speeds).
Essentially, they check and advise whether a building design is structurally safe. They can also advise on the efficient use of materials to achieve the required structural strength.
